DEMONSTRATION OF NATURAL PRODUCTS IN THE WHOLE TANNING CYCLE AT LABORATORY LEVEL
Use of laboratory equipment and materials for demonstrating the new natural products and processes at a laboratory level, as a useful basis for the semi-industrial level tests.
Demonstration action (lab scale) of calf leather tanned with Oxazolidine (OXATAN project) or different concentrations of chromium salts (4, 5, 6, 8% of pelts w/w), bated and defatted with natural products (PODEBA bating agent and ECODEFATTING product)

PODEBA bating agent and ECODEFATTIG product improve the chrome tanning process and it is possible to use lower concentration of chromium salts (20% less) to obtain the same quality of final leather.
Demonstration of calf leather tanned with oxazolidine (OXATAN project) or chromium salts, bated and defatted with natural products (PODEBA bating agent and ECODEFATTING product)
Laboratory level trials were carried out by testing several combinations of commercial and natural bating, defatting and tanning agents.
Bating, defatting and tanning trials scheme
The application and comparison/correlation among different characterization techniques, as FTIR, TG, SEM analysis and standard methods for leather characterization
The compatibility of natural products for bating and defatting phase both with Chromium and oxazolidine tanning, obtaining “wet blue” and “wet white” samples responding to required characteristics.
